On Tuesday, February 20 a spokesperson from the school told the Camden Haven Courier the cattle have been temporarily moved due to renovations taking place on the Ag Plot, relating to drainage.
The school also reported via its Facebook page that major renovations are currently underway in the cow enclosure, ‘which means some of our animal friends are having a little holiday’.
“We still have some animals on-site and all our classes are continuing as normal and the Ag plot continues to be open for student use,” the post said.
On Wednesday, February 21 a spokesperson from the Department of Education confirmed the five cattle were sold at Taree.
“The school understands one has been slaughtered but the others have not, due to their drenching schedule,” the spokesperson said.
“Other cattle from the school’s herd will occupy the ag plot at the school when the renovation is complete.”
School parent Karen Madden said she is disappointed with the school about not being honest regarding the decision to sell the cattle.
“It’s a complete lie,” she said.
Karen said her daughter and other students are very upset by the decision to sell the prizewinning cattle.
Three of the cattle were Sydney Royal prize winning Limousines (one we raised from a calf) and one was a well bred donated Angus.
