The RSPCA is aiming to Clear the Shelters with $29 adoption fees for all animals, regardless of age or species, in an attempt to find new homes for the 50-odd in Port Macquarie.
This Australia-wide initiative hopes to pair as many animals as possible with new owners.
Among them are the gorgeous three month old kitten named Loki, a handsome little chap with plenty of fun to offer his new home.
Loki came to the shelter as a lost baby with his sister Missy and Kath – both also available for adoption.
The older felines have so much love left to give, like Pudding. She is a gorgeous girl who was found as a stray with a paralysis tick and taken to a vet for treatment.
She recovered well but as no owner came for her she was handed into the pound in the hope that someone would soon come for her.
Unfortunately her old owner did not come so now she is seeking a new owner that will cherish her for the rest of her life.
You can also adopt a guinea pig, such as Woo or Piggly. Or if bigger animals are more your thing, there are several horses under the age of 15 who need new pastures to graze.
The fee includes normal adoption procedures, including desexing and microchipping, vaccinations, veterinary checks and behavioural procedures, as well as a one-on-one with prospective new adoptive parents, to ensure all animals go to great homes.
Last year saw NSW alone rehome a record-breaking 753 animals during Clear the Shelters, which was 90 per cent of animals available for adoption.
This year the campaign has spread across the country, with NSW, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and ACT all participating in the RSPCA’s biggest ever adoption drive.
NSW currently have 2,915 animals available for adoption state-wide, some having spent over 285 days in care.
All available research confirms that price at animal acquisition has no influence on long term home placement and welfare outcomes.
Locations include all RSPCA shelters, two care centres and 30 Petbarn adoption centres. View all animals available for adoption near you at www.adoptapet.com.au
