The decision was made, Mr Atherton said upon review, considering the additional cost to ratepayers and pet owners’ responsibility.
Beach to Beach Riverwalk Committee president Penny Small wants a dispenser to be placed adjacent to the Shih Tzu sculpture in Dunbogan reserve, as she said one dispenser for the whole pathway is not enough.
Mr Atherton said a ‘doggy doo bag’ dispenser is already installed along the pathway at the Dunbogan boat ramp and is refilled on a weekly basis.
“This dispenser comes at a cost to ratepayers, and like others supplied across the region, is conveniently located close to bins,” he said.
“It is located in a popular recreational space to prevent littler, and to maximise use and accessibility for pet owners.”
Mr Atherton said pet owners are ultimately responsible for the removal of their pet’s waste, and are encouraged to prepare in advance and carry ‘doggy doo bags’ with them on walks.
Bags can also be purchased from Council Customer Service Centre’s for a nominal fee.
