Cost-shifting occurs when other levels of government push costs back onto local government.
The cost-shifting data includes a 2017/2018 revised waste levy figure.
Cost-shifting ranges from the waste levy to voluntary conservation agreements, maintenance of Crown reserves, pensioner rates rebates, water fluoridation and the cost of Roads and Maritime Services transferred assets such as John Oxley Drive.
Cr Geoff Hawkins said the 2017/2018 cost shifting figure was $11,775,325.
“It’s almost $1 million a month and I suspect that is still the thin edge of the wedge,” he said.
“It’s a very substantial impact on this council and this community and I think it’s disgraceful.”
The council has written to various state and federal politicians and Local Government NSW about cost-shifting.
Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker and Lyne MP Dr David Gillespie have replied to the council.
