The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie’s Giant Book Sale runs from March 2 to 4 at Port Macquarie Panthers.
Rotary Club of Port Macquarie treasurer Bob Cleland said the book sale had proved to be very popular over the years with many people returning every year to replenish their stocks.
He said a lot of people were happy to recycle their books.
Books are progressively added to the tables throughout the sale with additional stock filling the gaps as books sell.
The annual fundraiser highlights the popularity of books in their traditional form.
Mr Cleland said people still preferred hard copy books despite advances in the electronic formats.
He said the event was a chance for passionate readers to see about 50,000 books in the one location.
“There is every chance they will find that book they’ve had trouble locating previously,” Mr Cleland said.
Rotary volunteers collect the books throughout the year in preparation for the book sale.
The Giant Book Sale is the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie’s biggest fundraiser.
The club supports many community organisations and projects.
Money raised from the book sale goes back into the community.
Giant Book Sale marketing coordinator Phil Perry said there would be a record number of books for sale.
An estimated 40,000 to 50,000 books will be on offer.
Book categories range from fiction to gardening, cooking, travel, art and children’s books.
Fiction will be sorted onto tables alphabetically to make it easier to find your favourite authors.
Mr Perry said people would see the biggest range of second hand books for all ages.
Rotary volunteers will lend a hand to ensure the book sale runs smoothly.
There will be discounts on March 3 and 4.
A cross section of age groups supports the book sale.
Nothing will be priced over $3 apart from sought after collectors’ items.
The book sale runs from 10am to 8pm on March 2, 9am to 6pm on March 3 and 9am to 2pm on March 4.
