The Year 6 student at St Joseph’s Primary School, Port Macquarie said she was motivated to help others after she saw an advertisement on television promoting the cause.
Layla’s hair will be shaved off on March 17 at her home at Lake Cathie and she’ll be surrounded by friends and family.
Layla said she has received support from friends at her school.
“They thought I was brave and were proud of me,” she said.
Layla’s original goal was to raise $500 to help give Australian families impacted by blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need.
She has now raised over $1200 and is aiming to donate $2000 to the Leukaemia Foundation.
