Laurieton Public School achieved substantially above average gains in student reading and/or numeracy achievement as students progressed from Year 3 to Year 5 between 2015 and 2017.
“The best measure of effective education is how student results improve over time, and that is why NAPLAN is such an important diagnostic tool for schools and families,” NSW Department of Education secretary Mark Scott said.
“We can learn so much from these schools about how they achieved these impressive gains so that other schools can benefit from their success.”
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) also congratulated St Joseph’s Primary School for having demonstrated substantially above average gain in reading and numeracy achievement.
The school also received a similar letter of congratulations from Mr David Condon, the Director of Schools for the Diocese of Lismore.
St Joseph’s Primary School Laurieton principal David Hughes said the school was very proud of the achievement which was the result of a collaborative approach to planning for student learning by a dedicated team of teachers and support staff.
Laurieton Public School principal Grant Timmins said a school community working together to achieve a vision has significant impact on school achievements.
Mr Timmins credited staff members at the school ‘who are passionate towards their teaching and work as a team to deliver quality education’.
The children, Mr Timmins said thrive on responsibility, respect and trust to create conducive learning environments.
“Parents who support, encourage and appreciate our endeavours completes the circle,” he said.
“How we achieved this is evidenced in the school plan and annual school report,” he said.
