Over the past five years, the branch has donated over $25,000 in support of the Camden Haven Community Health Centre in Laurieton, Port Macquarie Base Hospital and Wauchope District Memorial Hospital.

The Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams, recently asked that the House recognised the Camden Haven branch of the United Hospital Auxiliaries for its efforts in raising $6100 for Port Macquarie Base Hospital’s Surgical Unit.

Mrs Williams also congratulated the volunteers.

Branch president Carol Smith said the volunteers were ecstatic their hard work had been recognised in parliament.

“None of us set out to be thanked for what we do, but when it happens, it’s a great feeling for the volunteers to know their hard work has not gone unnoticed,” she said. 

Funds raised by the volunteers have helped to purchase blood pressure machines, wheelchairs and physiotherapy equipment for the public hospitals at Port Macquarie and Wauchope. 

The group’s contribution has helped refurbish a community meeting room at the Camden Haven Community Health Centre in Laurie Street.

Mrs Smith said none of the donations would have been possible without the support of the Camden Haven community.

“We are very fortunate in the Camden Haven to have the support of many generous people,” she said. 

“When we hold a fundraiser, be it our card stalls, a garage sale or our fete, the community responds and that allows us to improve patient amenity or to purchase equipment for the Community Health Centre in Laurieton or for the hospitals which care for patients from throughout the Camden Haven.”
