A man remains under police guard in hospital after he allegedly assaulted a police dog and his handler during an arrest in Lorne on Tuesday, March 20.

Police attended a home on Lorne Road, about 47 kilometres from Port Macquarie after reports of a domestic assault.
The man fled into nearby bushland, police allege.
Police commenced a search of the area with the assistance of the Dog Unit, and found a 41-year-old man.
Upon sighting police, the man allegedly attacked the dog and his handler. The man suffered an injury to his arm during the arrest.
Officers rendered first aid to the man until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and took him to Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
Police Dog GOV and his handler, a Senior Constable, were not injured.
The injured man remains under police guard at hospital.
Police believe the man and woman were known to each other.
