On April 28, The Port Macquarie Academy of Tai Chi is holding a demonstration day in celebration of World Tai Chi Day and is inviting the community to come along.
Tai Chi is both an integrated exercise and an enjoyable sport for all and master Bob Newton said it was something people of all ages could enjoy.
“Tai Chi is incredibly complex to master, but starting is easy because we put together simple moves,” Mr Newton said.
“We wanted to recognise the day by inviting the public to come and see what we do with some demonstration classes along with audience participation if they want to.”
“It offers great benefits for over stressed and tense modern people as well as aids in digestion, quiets the nervous system, benefits the heart and blood circulation, loosens joints and refreshes the skin.”
Mr Newton said when doing Tai Chi people should relax completely.
“The aim is to throw every bone and muscle wide open so the chi can travel through,” he said.
“We call Tai Chi moving meditation because it forces the body into a meditative state, relaxing and ensuring all your concentration is on moves and not what is going on in life.
“The goal is to bring your mind in harmony with your body.”
He said Tai Chi is great for stressed and busy people.
“If done daily, Tai Chi will contribute greatly to a healthy life.
“And the great thing about it is that it can be done by people of all ages and abilities.”
The Port Macquarie Academy of Tai Chi is holding their demonstration morning on April 28 from 10.30-11.30am at the Girl Guides hall on Hollingworth Street.
