Today I got a call from a very foreign-sounding man, wanting to talk to me about the Australian solar power scheme. He asked if I was the home-owner and when I said I was staying with family, he hung up.
I looked up the number and it came from the landline of a friend. I rang her and she said she hadn’t touched her phone at all.
The other day, I had a missed call from a Telegraph Point landline number. When I rang it, an elderly lady got very upset and said she hadn’t used her phone to make any calls.
I am concerned that these scammers are being able to use local landline numbers to phone me on my landline. How do they make these calls without the owner’s knowledge?
Anyone, especially the vulnerable, will answer a local phone number. I rang the police to report it and they told me to ring Scamwatch but when I rang them, a recorded message said they weren’t able to take my call at this time.
