“We’re asking our stallholders to infuse their fair with a retro or futuristic flair,” said event coordinator Lisa McPherson.
“For visitors this means tasting foods from the baby boomer era right through to futuristic fusions. Of course, all stallholders must utilise local produce to create their dishes at Slice of Haven.”
Entertainment will embrace the Flavours of Our Generations theme with music from local bands, local dance groups, artists, rides and face painting.
Organisers are sourcing participants for a MasterChef-style demonstration with well-known Mid North Coast identities to create dishes from their childhood.
Slice of Haven’s inaugural event was in 2008.
It was the first food and wine festival of its kind in the Camden Haven. Each year the organisers come up with a new theme to keep stallholders thinking innovatively and to ensure each event is fresh year-on-year for visitors.
“We’ve always looked to shake things up and be different each year, with new themes, demonstrations, entertainment and flavours,” said committee volunteer Robert Dwyer.
“Each stallholder applies to be part of the festival and must show in their application how they are embracing the theme and what local produce they are using in their menus.
“Keeping the festival fresh and edgy each year has worked because we have stallholders eager to participate each year and around 15,000 visitors and locals attending year after year.”
What does remain the same is our core value of embracing local business, innovation and local produce.
- Robert Dwyer
