The site which is Lot 271 Corrigans Road, Logans Crossing is part of land which dates back to the pioneering Logan family from the 1860s.
The latest owner of the land John Corrigan passed away in December, 2017 and he left the property to his soul heir and executor, daughter Janet Daws.
Janet said the original Logan family were her great great grandparents and the property has passed down through the generations to her.
Janet’s great great grandfather was John Logan, and the crossing is named after him.
John came to Australia from Ireland and he married a Windsor born woman Elizabeth Daly. They were among the very first settlers at the Camden Haven.
In the 1860s John moved his family to the Camden Haven District where he settled at Logan’s Crossing, as it is now known.
John Logan and his two sons worked the farm at the crossing, while Elizabeth and the daughters were in the village cottage which was much more spacious. Accommodation was provided for overnight travellers.
The first post office opened in the Camden Haven on May 1, 1875. Records show the first post master was John Logan, with Elizabeth and their daughter Jane.
The couple’s other daughter and Janet’s great grandmother was Honora.
Honora married James Corrigan in 1899 at Laurieton. She inherited the Logans Crossing property, before her daughters and then John Corrigan.
Janet is the last remaining member of the Corrigan family, after which Corrigans Road was named.
She said her father John did not mind if they sold the area or chose to live on the land.
Janet plans to move to the area from Victoria and live at one of the blocks, at number three Berryman Road.
The original house on that site burnt down and has since been replaced by the property at number three Berryman Road.
The property which Janet inherited is a total of 225 acres, which has been divided into four titles. Janet said she is reluctantly selling the smallest holding, which is five acres.
