For the first half, both teams pressed for the advantage in the forwards before Kendall scored in the 23rd, 30th and 39th minutes. Comments from the centre official as quoted.
“The first 30 minutes were the best he has had the pleasure to referee for many a year.”
Trailing 14 nil at the break, Kendall again pressed through the forwards prior to a bomb to Brad Smith on the wing, who jumped and twisted to place the ball over the line in the 50th minute, soon followed by a try to Kendall through the centres in the 54th minute.
With several breaks by the Shamrock halves being countered by Kendall cover defence, Bobby Davidson as a reserve playing in the second row broke through Kendall markers to score next to the posts in the 59th minute to be converted by Amos Donovan.
Kendall again scored in the 65th minute to take the final score to 30 to 6 in the home team favour. From this point on, fitness became a factor with the match ending with a ‘let’s be friends’ session at the whistle.
For the Shamrocks, players to stand out were Clinton Gibbs, Luke Flanagan, Ben Smith, Jarrad Davey, with Bobby Davidson receiving the officials’ one point and the players’ player.
Amos Donovan was faultless under the bomb and was heard on several occasions organising the defence. Several minor injuries we hope will be resolved through the week, only Thursday night will tell. Photos of Jimmy Bright on Saturday night confirmed the effort in defence.
Next Saturday we are at home to the Marlins when we anticipate a good home crowd to assist in a win to lift us up from 5th on the ladder prior to the long weekend and rep week, however, the Marlins should not be taken lightly after their demolition of the Tigers last week following new signings.
