Sam said he joined the group after witnessing the work members do, to link people in need to services which can help them.
“Last week there were three people who were living on council reserve,” he said.
“We managed to link them to social services so that they could be in a safe environment.”
One of his first jobs involved presenting Laurieton United Services Club manager Rob Dwyer with a certificate of appreciation for providing a place for people to connect and reconnect with the community.
Every week the club hosts a weekly free barbecue on Wednesday from 3pm.
Rob said the group is extremely valuable for those in need, through linking them with services including to assist with mental health issues, a laundry service and emergency housing.
