Unit commander Ken Rutledge said the new view will allow volunteers to keep a closer watch on vessels on the water, for improved community safety.
Mr Rutledge said the area will also give volunteers more space and comfort to carry out their tasks.
The radios at the base are also being upgraded, to keep the unit in line with technological advances.
Mr Rutledge said he expects the radio upgrades to be completed by the end of July, while the building works should be finished in a couple of weeks.
He thanked the local community for its ongoing support for the unit.
“Many of the funds (for the upgrade) have become available due mainly to the great support of our local community which we are extremely grateful for,” he said.
