Temperatures across the state plummeted on Monday, June 18 resulting in widespread snow to as low as 900m above sea level west of the mid north coast.

Snow falls were recorded at Nowendoc and Walcha while Barrington Tops delivered another day of the white stuff for snow lovers.

According to the Manning-Great Lakes Police District, there has been major snowfall across the Barrington Tops overnight with good snow coverage between Dingo Gate through to Honeysuckle Gate and also around to Tomalla.

There is approximately 15cm of snow at Tomalla, 10cm at the Dingo Gate and at Polblue and 5-7cm at Honeysuckle gate.

The temperature at Barrington on Monday afternoon was hovering around 4 degrees; conditions are wet with strong winds picking up. Forecast is for showers with more light snow predicted.

Barrington Tops Forest Road (Gloucester to Scone) currently remains open to 4WDs only.

Motorists should exercise extreme caution as the narrow, unsealed road is slippery. 

Temperatures nearer to the coast didn’t manage to get above 15 degrees with Port Macquarie topping 14.9 degrees at 11am before a cool burst of wind and rainfall bringing icy conditions throughout the afternoon.

There is a gale force wind warning for the Macquarie coast through until Tuesday afternoon (June 19).
