A $157 million Parents Package will be part of the budget.

The funding will boost the number of midwives and family health nurses, invest in testing and treatments for children’s diseases and provide practical and emotional support to parents.

An optional “baby bundle” for new parents will contain essential items.

New mother Lucy Bingemann from Port Macquarie will keep an eye on the budget announcements.

She said the Parents Package would be great.

“More funding for midwives and health would definitely be a benefit,” Mrs Bingemann said.

Mrs Bingemann said the “baby bundle” would help new parents.

“You don’t really expect how much having a baby costs,” she said.

Essential and everyday care items - such as a baby safe sleeping bag, room thermometer, wipes, nappies and educational materials - will be available for new parents to support the health, development and wellbeing of their babies.

The baby bundle measure will come at a cost of $7.6 million.

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet will hand down the state government’s final budget before the March election.

The budget is set to contain funding to plan a new police station in Port Macquarie.

Port Macquarie MP Williams in late May announced $1.1 million would be allocated in the 2018/19 state budget for planning and purchasing of the new site, if required.

Meanwhile, the state government is set to invest $6 million over four years to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools.

One of the previously announced projects is the Lake Cathie Public School upgrade.

The budget will invest more than $1 billion in ambulance services and capital works.

It will continue the $122 million Rural Ambulance Infrastructure Reconfiguration program which will improve the delivery of emergency medical care for people in rural and regional areas.

Some 23 new, rebuilt and updated NSW ambulance stations are included.

Planning continues for a new ambulance station at Wauchope.

The state government has committed to a record paramedic workforce boost and will deliver an extra 750 paramedics and ambulance call centre staff over the next four years.

It is understood 59 new paramedics will be spread across the Mid-North Coast, North Coast, Hunter, Illawarra, Southern and Central Coast.
