It is the second time a fur seal has been spotted at the location with the marine visitor proving to be a drawcard for the hundreds of whale watchers venturing to Tacking Point Lighthouse each day.
Often, they simply want a rest after travelling in rough seas and the species spotted in Port Macquarie over recent weeks is likely to be from further east in New Zealand.
“It is a great time to get out and do some animal spotting from the beaches and along the coastline as you never know what you will see out in the ocean,” she said.
Whale watching season is in full swing on the coast with the official ORRCA Whale Census to be conducted this weekend (June 24).
The ORRCA Whale Census has been conducted every year since 2000 and is a community project that helps track and monitor whale populations along the east coast of Australia and assist with conservation measures.
