NSW Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant recently announced a $56.4 million investment in the NSW State Emergency Service’s (SES) fleet program.
The major upgrade of the Laurieton headquarters received $200,000 and is being undertaken in partnership with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
The works included a new shed, which has enabled the unit, for the first time to store all their vehicles, equipment and boats on site.
Mr Burg said there had also been extensive grounds work to tidy up the property and add a deck off the crew room.
Internally the new base will include toilets, a training room and air conditioning for the members who work through all seasons.
After 10 years of working at the Camden Haven site, Mr Burg said the upgrade had been ‘a long time coming’.
Included as part of the internal works, Mr Burg said there would also be an upgrade of their computer system.
Mr Burg thanked the Camden Haven community for its support, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and the government for funding.
Once works are completed, Mr Burg said the unit will have an open day, inviting members of the public to check out the updated facility.
“We would like to thank the local community for their patience with noise and activity during the building process,” he said.
