The fence around the park came down on Saturday, July 7 and the fine weather has attracted young families to the location.
Laurieton’s Mel Chapman said her son Dean loves riding on the track at the park.
Mel gave feedback to Port Macquarie-Hastings Council on what features she thought the park needed.
“They’ve included nearly all of my ideas, so it’s looking fantastic,” she said.
Another mother Hilary Burch said she and her sons Hudson (four-years-old) and Luca Jack (18 months) were eager for it to open.
“So happy there is finally a good park in Laurieton for the kids to run wild and have fun,” she said.
“It is the most gorgeous little park with everything a kid could want!”
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council sought community feedback on the playground design for the upgrade.
The playground equipment originally shown in the Laurieton Oval draft concept plan changed to cater for an older child age range, as per feedback received from the community.
New features for the playground included a new platform with slide, an asphalt bike/scooter track, timber boats and an interactive timber bridge with sound bells.
The aim of the upgrade was to include the addition of natural play elements, diversity of equipment, and more shade and seating.
About $80,000 was allocated to the project from the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council 2017/2018 operational plan.
