ANZ NSW/ACT general manager Amanda Heath-Ogden said customers in Laurieton are increasingly choosing online options and ATMs as their main source of banking.
“This reflects a broader trend in the community as more services move online,” she said.
”Of our customers who have Laurieton as their home branch, only 20 per cent of them currently use the branch as their main banking source with 59 per cent of them preferring internet or mobile banking, while 19 per cent use ATMs.”
Ms Heath-Ogden said the company is currently in consultations with the staff members who work at the branch and are supporting them through the transition, while making every effort to find them redeployment opportunities with ANZ.
Ms Heath-Ogden said the decision to close the branch had been a difficult one to make.
On behalf of the company, Ms Heath-Ogden apologised for the inconvenience it will cause some customers.
“We have a number of options in place for our customers to continue their banking, such as Bank@Post, which is located at 14 Lake St, Laurieton – just 270 metres from the branch,” she said.
“They can also do their banking online and via the ANZ app on their mobile device.
“We encourage customers to speak to the team at the branch before October 4 to learn about which of these banking options are best for them.”
