West Haven resident Val Hamilton was on her way back from Laurieton at about 11.15am when she spotted the bird on the Stingray Creek Bridge.
Val said the bird appeared to be in no rush and took its time to ‘politely walk’ from one side of the bridge to the other.
“It was an unusual sight, as you don’t often see black swans venture on to the road,” she said.

Val said a cyclist got off his bike in an attempt to usher the bird along.
Traffic was held up for about five minutes to allow for the black swan to make its journey.
