Wauchope District Historical Society is inviting people to join them in commemorating the bicentenary of John Oxley’s exploration of the Hastings Valley from Mount Seaview, following the Hastings River to Port Macquarie.

The community celebrations will take place in September and October this year, and Jeannette Rainbow from the Society says there is something for everyone.
“We are following the diary followed by John Oxley 200 years ago. Our flagship event is at Mount Seaview, and there are great events planned,” she said.
Major events include:
September 21-23: Weekend of Oxley at Mount Seaview, official opening of bicentenary.
Book launch John Oxley, a new perspective by Rob Tickle BA. Guest speakers are botanist Dr Ian Telford and author Richard Grimmond.
September 29: Bicentenary community family dance from 6pm at the Showground Hall. BYO refreshments, $15pp. Children 5-16yrs $5pp.
October 3: 4WD trip to Bago Mountain. Depart Town Clock at 8.30am. Bookings essential $45pp. Phone 0424 226 258.
October 6: Governor’s Ball at Wauchope RSL from 6pm. Live band, formal or historic dress, two-course meal, $75pp, tables of 8. Bookings to 0414 845 348 or email cathylw@yahoo.com.
October 7: Governor’s Garden Party at “Claremont” Oxley Head between 1.30pm and 5pm. Semi-formal dress, light refreshments, wandering minstrels. $20pp with bookings to 0424 226 258.
