A crowd of walkers, including children and dogs, gathered at the start of the path near Seaview Avenue in Dunbogan where they were welcomed by Andy McCoubrie who said the project was extremely well-supported by the local community.
“They are very vocal. We have also had so many financial contributions into it, and time-wise, we have built a lot of the path with volunteers,” he said.
He thanked the hardworking committee, the mayor, Peta Pinson and the Port Macquarie member, Leslie Williams who were there to cut the ribbon.
“We get problems, we have had setbacks, and three kms of pathway still need to be done,” he said.
“We have got the trickier sections still to come, but we have got a good bank of money now, thanks to Leslie Williams and the council.”
Mayor Peta Pinson said that without a vision, nothing is possible and she thanked the B2B committee for having the idea to connect communities through pathways.
“It’s a wonderful achievement,” she said.
Leslie Williams MP congratulated the Camden Haven community for a vision that has won the hearts of people across the Hastings.
“The committee have been incredibly patient, determined and diligent,” she said.
“This is money that is so well-spent and when you get local concreters to do the work, it’s a bigger investment than $500,000.”
After the ribbon was cut, everyone walked to Dunbogan Reserve for cake and morning tea.
