Kendall Blues defeat the Lower Macleay Magpies on Saturday, April 4

On Saturday, August 4 the Kendall Blues took on the Lower Macleay Magpies in the Hastings League elimination final.

The Kendall Blues very quickly showed they are in form, with players back after injuries and sickness.

Last week’s man of the match Brad Smith scored a try four minutes into the match, although the conversion was unsuccessful.

Blues Matt Hensley capitalised on a dropped ball by a Magpies’ player. He raced 80 metres and scored under the posts. Tamati Wigman kicked the goal. The Blues increased their lead 10 nil.

Nineteen minutes in and Joel Wilkes scored in the corner.

The Magpies hit back with Martin Gordon scoring out wide, bringing the score to the Blues 14 and Magpies four.

Fourteen minutes left of the first half and Jed Seymour plucked the ball out of the air from Mark Bell’s kick. Alex Pearce nailed the conversion and gave the Blues 20 to the Magpies’ 4.

With 11 minutes to go Matt Hensley scored one pass off a scrum, with Alex Pearce on target.

Eight minutes into the second half and Jed Seymour scored his second try of the day, after a 60 metre run. Tamati Wigman was on target to keep the Blues in control 32 to 4.

Bayd Latham split the defence and scored under the posts. Tamati Wigman made no mistakes and the Blues led 38 to 4.

With 58 minutes down, James Kennedy scored off a Bayd Latham pass and the Blues moved to 42, with the  Magpies on 4.

With 15 minutes to go James Kennedy scored his second, Ben Fetcher's conversion was successful and the Blues led 48 to Magpies’ 4.

Kenny Young scored and then Blayne Bignell crossed. Kicks from Ben Fletcher and Alex Pearce were both successful.

With five minutes to go, Brad Smith scored his second try for the day to give the Blues 64 to 4

Man of the match for the Blues was Tamati Wigman.

Captain coach Beau Kettle said he couldn't be prouder.

“Every team will encounter a loss,” he said.

“It just depends on how the team regroups and plays the next week which shows what they are made of.

“Some losses are a blessing in disguise.

“The Kendall Blues came out of last weekend with a win, their confidence back and no injuries"

Next week the Kendall Blues take on the Laurieton Stingrays.
