Finalists Sarah Chang (Sydney), Gemma Lee (Sydney), Johnny van Gend (Melbourne) and Dindin Wang (Melbourne) were chosen following the semi final round at the Sydney Conservatorium on August 5.

The Kendall National Violin Competition is celebrating its 20th year in 2018.

Previous winners have included some of Australia’s most gifted and successful violinists including the international soloist Ray Chen.

Kendall National Violin Competition artistic director Goetz Richter said the semi final was a tribute to the talent Australia has to offer and the serious passion with which musicians, teachers and supporters embrace opportunities.

“The Kendall National Violin Competition has inspired so many diverse and individual musicians over two decades,” he said. 

“The finals of the competition in Kendall on September 15 will be a thrilling event and a real climax for this unique event.”

The final of the Kendall National Violin Competition will feature each of the four violinists in recital.

Their recital program will also include an Australian work written especially for the competition.

The main prize of the competition is a concert violin made by master luthier Michal Prokop from Australian timbers.

Additional prizes include the Joan Levy Memorial award as well as a number of significant cash prizes.
