Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is inviting residents to give feedback on the proposed design for safety and beautification upgrades to Ocean Drive in Lake Cathie.
Council wants the community to choose which section of the road should be planned for upgrade first.
Options include either from Miala Street to Fiona Crescent; or from Fiona Crescent to Ernest Street.
Lake Cathie resident Garry Roberts said the section between Miala Street and Fiona Crescent should take priority, as there have already been a lot of upgrades for the latter section.
On Thursday, August 23 Garry handed Port Macquarie-Hastings Council acting mayor Lisa Intemann with a petition which was signed by over 300 residents.
“We have no footpaths on either side of the road, no kerbs, guttering or stormwater control,” he said.
“Properties on the west side of Ocean Drive and Fiona Crescent have their houses and garages flooded, plus the road is not aligned correctly within the road reserve.
Garry said residents have been pursuing the reconstruction works for over two decades.
“It is hoped council will set the newly designed upgrading of this section of Ocean Drive as a number one priority,” he said.
Ms Intemann said each section of the upgrade will cost between 11 and 12 million dollars.
“It’s vital the community to give their say in person, online or by post,” she said.
“Once we know what the priority is from the community on where they would like works to commence first, then we can pursue funding from the state government.”
There isn’t a time line of when works is expected to start, but Ms Intemann is hopeful funding will be secured given the positive relationship council has with the state government.
Council will host pop-up stalls in Lake Cathie, where local residents can view the proposed designs and ask questions of staff.
The first session is on Monday, August 27 from 6pm until 7.30pm at the Lake Cathie Community Centre.
The second session is on Saturday, September 1 from 10am until 12pm at the Lake Cathie Shopping Centre (in front of Woolworths).
