Lake Cathie resident Kerry Newman believes Scott Morrison will carry out his new job as Prime Minister of Australia well.

“He’s proven to have a positive track record in all the portfolios he’s had up to now,” he said.

Scott Morrison has been chosen by the Liberal Party room as Australia's 30th Prime Minister.

Mr Morrison defeated Peter Dutton 45 votes to 40 in the secret ballot, when a spill motion was carried out.

Julie Bishop was eliminated in the ballot’s first round.

Mr Newman said he preferred to have Morrison as leader, rather than Peter Dutton.

“He (Scott Morrison) played it by the book and wasn’t part of the coup,” he said.

Mr Newman’s preference for leadership would have been Julie Bishop.

“She’s got really good experience and would appeal to all sectors of the community,” he said.

Given the ‘travesty’ of leadership change over the past 10 years, Mr Newman hopes Mr Morrison will last.

Matthew Hughes from Lake Cathie didn’t know who Scott Morrison is but he said change would be a good thing.

He said Malcolm Turnbull could have done a better job as leader of the country.

“It’s unfortunate given the position of power he was in,” he said.

Matthew hopes Scott Morrison can do a ‘tip top job’.

Jodie Kiermaier was in Bonny Hills, visiting from Canberra.

While she doesn’t know Scott Morrison personally she said if the Liberal Party had to make a change he was the best choice.

“I just wish they would get themselves sorted so this doesn’t happen again,” she said.
