Clubs from Port Macquarie, Laurieton and North Haven who form the Port Macquarie Hastings Local ClubGRANTS Committee united to give away more than $100,000 to a wide range of community groups in the Port Macquarie-Hastings.
The committee is represented by Port City Bowling Club, Port Macquarie Panthers, The Westport Club, Laurieton United Services Club and Club North Haven.
Their annual program this year saw $117,510 given out at a presentation on August 22, at Port City Bowling Club.
North Haven Public School received $4000 to carry out phase two of their sensory garden.
The school’s P&C is driving the project and organising fundraisers to implement play structures to encourage students to be active and encourage imaginative play.
“This will give students who need to develop stronger socialisation skills, an environment in which they can connect with peers and explore positive relations,” the grant application outlined.
“The facilities will also encourage all students to use recreation time in an active rather that sedentary way.
“Structures will include modern climbing frames and a pirate ship structure with an underneath area that can be used by students to create other imaginary play areas.
“The structure will incorporate existing trees and plants to heighten the natural and creative aspects of the environment.
“Support staff will be directed to the area to encourage and assist students with disabilities to make the most of this area and to support and guide play.”
Bonny Hills Rural Fire Service received $3500 for a thermal imaging camera.
Herons Creek Public School received $2000 to create a community cultural garden.
Jenny Edmunds, who chairs the committee, said the ClubGRANTS Program provides much needed funds for vital organisations and volunteer groups in the Port Macquarie-Hastings area.
“This injection of funds demonstrates the strong and active connections our local clubs have to the community,” she said.
“The program enhances our clubs’ role and adds value to the wonderful assistance these groups provide to our community.”
Mrs Edmunds said the committee is proud to align with such proactive community projects and congratulated all recipients of funding:
