Many residents in our community live in towns and villages with sealed roads, reticulated water and sewerage in close proximity to local services, shops and more.
If you are one of many who like to live a little further out, some of these conveniences change, the most noticeable being the end of sealed roads, and the start of gravel ones.
There is about 450 kilometres of unsealed road network for council to manage. We have recently developed a new draft policy outlining the types of maintenance these roads receive.
Council funds are insufficient to have the entire network sealed, or graded, as often as many of us might like.
I encourage everyone who either lives nearby, or frequently uses an unsealed road to check out the policy, and let us know what you think might need to change.

Upcoming events
Last week our region hosted the NSW Regional Events Conference, where delegates from all over the state converged on the Glasshouse to share ideas on how to create and grow events.
And of course, as a World Event City, we had lots to show off thanks to the hard work of our local event organisers.
In the coming months these are some of the fun and inclusive events taking place across the region:
The Blues and BBQ Festival will once again send a lovely smokey haze through the Port Macquarie CBD on September 14-15.
If you would rather relax and reconnect, then maybe the Ekam Yoga Festival in Bonny Hills on the same weekend is more your style.
The Wildwood Music Festival later this month, and in October the CLB3X3 Basketball competition comes to town – local players can join in, create a team and shoot some hoops.
