More than 80 people took part in the walk from Town Beach to Town Green which focused on demanding more from our political representatives in respect to Climate Change.
Kerri-Ann Jones, president of the Climate Change Australia Hastings branch said it was a great turnout from the Port Macquarie-Hastings community.
“Our local walk forms part of a global mobilisations to stand up to demand more to stop Climate Change,” Ms Jones said.
“We are pleading with our federal, state and local political representatives to do more to stop Climate Change and move towards more renewable energy sources.
“The walk is part of a global day of action. In every capital city and many towns across Australia, and the world, there are walks like ours taking place and hopefully we can get the decision makers to listen.”
Ms Jones said it was encouraging that local so many people came to the walk.
“Climate Change is going to be a disastrous all over the world and it is up to us to stand up to our political leaders and say we want change,” she said.
“Climate Change does not cause weather changes it just makes the changes to weather more extreme.
“It means that hurricanes, droughts and floods are more severe and damaging, not that they exist.
“But it is encouraging that so much is being done locally.”
From the walks across the world, Ms Jones hopes that the energy focus moves away from fossil fuels.
“We need to stop our reliance on fossil fuels and seriously look at the alternatives.
“In the Hastings more and more people are installing solar panels and that is wonderful that we are trying to use renewables but there is always more that can be done.”
