A spokesperson from the school said spring signals a time for change.

“The school continues to improve its agriculture department as sheep are shorn and cattle are sold, making room for bigger and better things to come,” she said. 

The spokesperson said the sale of the animals will contribute to the cost of some of the refurbishments at the agriculture plot.

There are five cattle on the school site, in accordance with recommendations from an external audit conducted earlier this year.

Concerned parent David Lee said the pet care subject had been cancelled, while cattle showing had been postponed indefinitely and termed an ‘unnecessary’ extra-curricula activity .

A spokesperson from the school said none of the school’s subjects had been impacted by the refurbishments or sale of the cattle. 

“The delivery of quality curriculum has always been, and continues to be, the priority,” she said. 

 “We continue to look towards the future and aim to implement extra-curricular programs, once the faculty has the framework to support them.”

The spokesperson said the faculty plans to show three of the animals at the upcoming Camden Haven Show and also at Scone later in the year.

Camden Haven High School students received assistance from a teacher at Westport High School, earlier this year.

“This was to enable them to be signed off on completing competencies for the primary industries course while the Camden Haven High School teacher was on leave,” the spokesperson said. 

“Although times of change can be difficult, it is important that the community is supportive of the school and the students so the faculty can best enhance student development.

“These improvements are student-focused and we hope they can understand the long-term benefits and improved safety features for both staff and students.”
