A spokesperson from NSW Department of Education said the development is taking place to cater for growing student enrolment demand.
Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills areas are anticipated to experience significant population growth in the period to 2036.
The community is invited to give feedback on the upgrade plan.
“School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) has a community engagement program and is committed to working together with local school communities and other stakeholders to deliver the best possible learning facilities,” the NSW Department of Education spokesperson said.
“SINSW will continue to work closely with the Lake Cathie school community by sharing regular updates throughout the life of the project.
“This includes community notifications, school newsletters and website updates.”
Information sessions on the Lake Cathie Public School upgrade will be at Woolworths Lake Cathie on Saturday October 13, Wednesday October 17 and Saturday November 3 from 10am until 12pm.
Project designs and further details will be presented to the public at the sessions.
The spokesperson said the project has not yet been tendered and, as such, the budget for the project is commercial-in-confidence.
Bonny Hills and Lake Cathie are expected to experience significant growth in the coming years. This is due to the natural attraction of the coastal villages and the relatively short commute to Port Macquarie.
The area is anticipated to be the second fastest growing urban area in the Port Macquarie-Hastings.
Planned future development is orientated along the coast between Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills.
This includes the mast planned Rainbow Beach release area which has the capacity for 1300 dwellings, primary schools, playing fields and a village centre to provide retail and community facilities.
