Country Labor has announced Phil Costa as Labor’s candidate for the Federal seat of Lyne.

Mr Costa Was elected to the seat of Wollondilly in southwest Sydney in 2007.
He became a public school teacher in the 1970s and taught for more than 35 years in Macquarie Fields, The Oaks and Campbelltown.
Elected to Wollondilly Shire Council in 1985, he became deputy mayor in 1999 and mayor in 2005. Mr Costa is married with two adult children.
The announcement was made on Monday September 17 before 300 delegates at the Country Labor Conference held at Club Forster.
The event was attended by many regional Labor MP’s and Party Officials including Joel Fitzgibbon MP, Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Anthony Albanese MP, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Chair of Country Labor Bryce Wilson, Labor General Secretary Kaila Murnain and Country Organiser Jay Suvaal.
The announcement was made by Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Joel Fitzgibbon MP and Anthony Albanese MP, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure after Phil was successfully endorsed by local Branches.
“I’m proud to announce Phil Costa as our Country Labor Candidate for Lyne. Phil is an exceptional candidate who has the experience and determination to fight for the people of Lyne to get their fair share,” said Joel Fitzgibbon MP.
“We are so proud to have Phil Costa, a Nabiac resident, as our local Candidate because he understands the challenges our local community faces,” said Graham Robinson, Branch President of Forster.
Phil Costa was formerly the state Member for Wollondilly and served as NSW State Water Minister.
”My wife and I always loved the Mid North Coast and that's why we moved here a few years ago as locals we want to make it an even better place to live. Our community deserves better after being neglected by the National Party,” said Phil Costa.
“Phil has been a passionate advocate for improved services at a local level I am proud to support Phil in the upcoming Federal Election,” said Dr David Keegan, Labor Candidate for Myall Lakes.

The sitting MP is Dr David Gillespie of the National Party, who has held the seat since September 2013.
