They went through the day undefeated and won five from five, but it was two goals from Mitchell Whiting that secured a 2-1 win over Harrington in the final.
Scores were locked at 1-all until late in the match when Whiting found the back of the net and coach Hayley McCleary was pleased to finally get the monkey off the back.
“Every year we’ve been the runner-up at this competition and we’ve been in it since 2015,” she said.
“What’s that saying – always the bridesmaid, but never the bride.”
McCleary’s combined year three and four team were too good for schools from Forster, Harrington, Port Adventist and Westport Public School.
“Most of our games were pretty close,” McCleary said.
“Our school has been getting better, but it was good to see the Lake Cathie Spirit was on show.
“It was a great result.”
