“They (offenders) know when people are in and when they’re relaxed,” Detective Senior Constable Martin Gampe said.
At one property at Bonny Hills an offender entered the house and allegedly attempted to gain access to a room, where the owner was watching the grand final on television.
A business at Bonny Hills had cash stolen from the premises after offenders allegedly removed a sliding door from its tracks.
Det. Snr. Const. Gampe said offenders are after cash and cards.
“The days of walking around with a big television under their arms are gone,” he said.
“They want items which can used and then quickly disposed of.”
Det. Snr. Const. Gampe said pay wave cards can be used by offenders extensively over a short space of time, at a number of businesses to make purchases.
Police want to remind people to securely store any valuables, including children’s push bikes which are often stolen after they are left on front lawns.
A 22-year-old Lake Cathie man was stopped twice by police over the long weekend for driving with a suspended licence.
In a separate incident, a motorist was charged with drink driving after he was stopped by police at Lake Cathie on Saturday, September 29 at 12.35am.
He recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.99.
