MID North Coast residents should prepare for dangerous conditions as a southerly change on October 10 is expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Brett Dutschke, Weatherzone meteorologist, warned the day would change quickly.

“Port Macquarie will experience a nice sunny start that will warm up the day quickly, he said.

“However a southerly change will arrive in the middle of the day and that will bring rain and thunderstorms.

“It is quite a strong southerly, so it will become wet, windy and colder during the afternoon.

“There is a good chance of flash flooding and damaging winds.

“I wouldn’t rule out some large hail being possible, however the most intense storms will be on high ground.”

He said just about anywhere on the Mid North Coast has a good chance of a thunderstorm.

A high temperature will hit 24 degrees before midday, and will cool below 20 degrees when showers and storms set in.

“Some of the thunderstorms could be severe, so people are advised to listen out for warnings,” Mr Dutschke said.

“In excess of 20mm is likely in Port Macquarie, with potential for more than 40mm.

The storms will ease off in the evening but the rain will stick around, as will the winds.”

Mr Dutschke said Thursday, October 11 will be wet and windy and the temperature will reach just 18 degrees.

“It will be as cool a day as experienced in winter,” he said.

“Coastal waters have a warning in place for strong winds. It will become generally dry into Friday.

“On the weekend showers become likely again, a good chance of being more frequent with winds going from southerly to easterly. That change will bring in more moisture.”
