The grandson of war period photographer Alfred Cavalchini has uncovered historical images of the area during family research.

“I have accessed numerous photographs of the area which have been digitalised at the State Library of NSW,” Peter McCarthy said.
“I have been able to research the news items of the time, to add to the story behind these historic windows in time.”
Peter spent his early schooling years at Kendall in the early 1950s and will return to the area to honour his great uncle on Remembrance Day.
“I shall be attending the Remembrance Day commemoration for the 1918 Armistice at Kendall in honor of my grandmother’s brother, Cpl Leo Stanley Tisdell,” Peter said.
“He was killed in France, August 1918.
Leo Tisdell was born at Laurieton, however was living at Kendall when he enlisted.

Leo was a labourer prior to enlistment. He embarked with the 12th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Beltana on November 25, 1916. He was killed in action in France, on 8 August, 1918 aged 30.
The portrait was taken by Leo’s brother-in-law, Alfredo Cavalchini.
