On the front page of the Courier on October 7, 1998 it was reported that a multi-purpose stadium had been given the stamp of approval and the community was being urged to convert project appeal pledges into cash.
“The improved community preferred option for the stadium, to be included in the $12 million Camden Haven High School project, was endorsed by the committee set up to establish a community facility for the area and Hastings Council,” it was reported.
“The president of the Camden Haven Stadium Committee and Hastings Councillor John Barrett said the community preferred option for the facility had not only been selected and endorsed by the tendering process, but it had been enhanced with a stage area, tiered seating, kiosk, showers and separate school and community storage facilities.
“Cr Barrett and committee secretary Mr Col Shaw paid tribute to the stadium committee who had ‘with vigour pursued the enhancement of the stadium’.”
