After losing the toss the Lawyers found themselves batting. The Diamonds appeared rattled by the selective batting of the Lawyers. With the bases loaded Fiona Ewan cracked the ball towards left field, the Diamonds shortstop intercepted the hard hit ball and fired it towards home plate. As the catcher tried to tag a sliding Shanene Matthews, the ball got away from her and 3 runs were scored. At the end of the top half of the innings the Lawyers had seven runs.
With their regular pitcher away, Mel Hunt was invited to pitch. Mel relies on missed hits and a good defence behind her. With the infield covered by Amanda Badger, Georgia Boland, Sarah Currie and Shanene Mathews, the Lawyers boasted an infield as good as any in the competition. However, a few errors in the field on a slippery surface allowed the Diamonds to score 2 unearned runs.
The second innings finished with the Lawyers having a 14/2 lead. A change of pitcher by the Diamonds saw Marli Buller arrive at the mound. The change in the game was immediate as the speed of the pitching changed dramatically. Buller threw fastballs which were as fast as anything ever seen in Port Macquarie. The Lawyers batters struggled against the fast accurate pitching, scoring one more run while the Diamonds gained confidence and outscored the Lawyers 2/1 over the final two innings.
The final score showed a comfortable win to the Lawyers 15-6. Most spectators left the ground knowing that the Diamonds with Buller pitching were very competitive with the Local Lawyers.
