Starting at 10.30am, the talk will cover all things stingless bees, the speciality for Dr Heard who has a lifetime of knowledge.
He is the founder of Sugarbag Bees, an innovative company based in Brisbane Australia which provides stingless bee hives, products, services, advice, information and education resources.
Their primary activity is breeding and selling stingless bee hives.
An entomologist and ex-CSIRO research scientist, he has been keeping Australian native stingless bees since 1985.
He continues to develop new hive designs and techniques that allow better splitting and extraction of sugarbag and wax.
He has been giving seminars and workshops on native bees since 1995 and hopes to interact with as many like-minded people when he visits Port Macquarie.
"I’m really excited to come to Port Macquarie. I’ve received interest over the years from the area about the bees,” he said.
“It will be great to meet some locals who want to find out more.”
His book focuses on two aspects: the first being building a strong understanding of how bees work and the second about how to keep these bees, extract honey, protect them and more.
“Management of any animal whether it’s a domesticated animal, farm animal, pet or just any kind of animal you have to learn how to successfully keep them," he said.
