Schools (public, private and independent) from Buladelah to the Tweed Coast and west to the Lismore area were involved in the competition.
The North Haven team won six preliminary games at the Schubert 7s in Port Macquarie earlier this year, to qualify for the Northern Regional Finals.
The team was made up of students from year 5 and 6 including Bailey, Kye, Ben, Adam, Max, Jack, Cohen, Noah, Lewis, Tayte, Tallin and Hamish.
The Northern Regional Finals were at Coffs Harbour and team players pulled off the win of four preliminary games, a semi final and the final.
A spokesperson from the school said North Haven’s strong defence throughout the competition set the platform for their successful run.
In the final of the Legend 7s Northern NSW Region the team played against St Francis Xavier, who had progressed to the final with some strong ball running during the day.
“North Haven identified these strong runners and met them with brick wall defence,” the spokesperson said.
The final score was 16-8.
North Haven’s captain Bailey accepted the winning trophy and thanked his team mates for their terrific teamwork, commitment and sportsmanship.
Invictus Games address
North Haven Public School parent and Invictus Games athlete Matt Model addressed the school’s assembly recently to give students and staff an insight into the event.
Matt has enjoyed a dream opening run at the 2018 Invictus Games adding two silver medals to Australia’s tally at the indoor rowing.
Matt spoke to the school to raise awareness about the Invictus Games and its importance for the armed forces and general public.
Matt’s twin sons and year 6 students Cohen and Noah are in Sydney to support their dad.
Model is one of 500 competitors from 18 nations competing in Sydney and forms part of the 72 member strong Australian Invictus Games Squad.
The Invictus Games is an international adaptive multi-sport competition for serving and former serving military personnel who've been wounded, injured or become ill during their military service.
