They have their eyes on the surfboat championship come the end of the final carnival in 2019, and with a healthy contingent of rowers the goal is most definitely achievable.
Surfboats, an exciting summer sport that is a part of the surf lifesaving movement, is a 100 year-old tradition where four rowers and a sweep take on the surf, row out past the break and back while racing against other boat crews.
It's all about who is the best crew on the day of a carnival – which are held fortnightly – with an accrued point score going over eight rounds to determine the champion at the end of the season.
Boat captain Tony Kee said they were excited to be taking two crews to Coffs Harbour this weekend for the two-day carnival – called the Coffs Boaty Bash – at Park Beach.
“Park beach is a fantastic beach to row off. There's always a bit of a surging wave so it will be a great test,” he said.
“We're looking forward to it. We will have two crews going down - an under 19s girls crew and an opens men's crew.
“We're excited, as a club, for the season. We've had a good turnover rate with most of our rowers back from last year.

“We have been successful in bringing new rowers in over the last couple of years. We have some fantastic rowers coming out of the club now, which is good to see."
Their successful reserve men's crew, which has won the local competition three years in a row, are stepping up to A grade.
In 2016 the men’s crew scraped home at Coffs Harbour in a tight finish, stealing victory by one point. The year after they won fairly comfortably.
"Plus the girls crew that rode last year had a great breakout year and we're excited about their progress,” he said.
“We have a father-daughter combination in that crew with life member and long-time sweep Steve Monaghan sweeping both his daughters, Grace and Lucy.”
Round one and two is slated for November 10 and 11 at Woolgoolga.
