In November 1998 the Camden Haven was getting ready to host a major skysurfing competition over the Christmas holiday period.
“Prizes of up to $5000 will be offered in both cash and trophies for the winners of the event which will start on December 27,” it was reported.
“The contest is being promoted by Lee Scott, the chief flying instructor at Johns River High Adventure Air Park in conjunction with the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce.
“Lee is involved in negotiations with Hastings Council and National Parks and Wildlife Service to secure the use of take-off and landing points.
“Interest has already been shown from 50 pilots who will travel from throughout Australia and overseas to test their skills in flying and accurate landing.
“Lee is confident that the inaugural competition will be successful and will become a major attraction on the international hang gliding scene.”
