The crossing will be located near the bus stop between Seymour and Tunis streets. 

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council applied for funding for the implementation of the crossing and the grant was approved through the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund in March 2018. 

Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said the $347,000 mid-block zebra pedestrian crossing will include kerb extensions and additional street lights, modification of parking layout, a taxi stand, bus stop and loading zones.

Bold Street resident Doug Siddons said he doesn’t understand why the work hasn’t started yet. 

“Council didn’t delay the works on the upgrade to the Lake Cathie Foreshore Reserve playground,” he said. 

Doug said he is concerned about the welfare and safety of many senior residents who cross Bold Street. 

“A lot of them go to Coles and then they need to get across the road to the chemist,” he said. 

“Many of these people aren’t very mobile and cars don’t tend to slow down at all.” 

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council director Jeffery Sharp said council is committed to upgrading Bold Street in Laurieton with works to improve pedestrian safety and beautify the streetscape.

“The upgrades form part of an extensive list of transport and pedestrian improvements council has prioritised and will complete right across the region this financial year,” he said. 

Mr Sharp thanked local community members for their patience in the lead up to these important works. 

“We look forward to delivering an improved CBD experience in Laurieton for local residents and visitors in 2019,” he said.
