The search resumed on Tuesday morning for father-of-four, who left his home in the Hobart suburb of West Moonah on Friday to play golf but didn't return.
His ute was found on Monday morning at nearby suburb Lenah Valley at tracks leading to the foothills of Mount Wellington.
It sparked an extensive day-long bushland search over four kilometres, but no trace was found.
SES crews, police and more than 60 members of the public began combing denser areas on Tuesday morning.
"Please help us find our Dad," his daughter Tegan Kiddle wrote on social media.
Acting Inspector Damien George said police were hopeful of finding Mr Kiddle alive but were "realists" about his survival chances.
"This has been a very traumatic process for the family. They're really supportive of all the efforts put in by everybody."
A rescue helicopter is expected to join the search later in the day.
Mr Kiddle, described as fit and active, regularly walked the tracks near where his car was found and is likely wearing a blue shirt with beige pants.
"According to everything I've heard about Elson, he's a man of strong character," Insp George said.
