The revamped park includes a variety of features including upgraded equipment and natural play elements.
Four-year-old Tyler loves the ‘whirly twirly’ and ‘the slide’.
His mum Brooke Demarkis said the park ‘is great’ but she would like there to be more shade at the location.
Brooke and Tyler are Lake Cathie residents and have watched the park grow in popularity.
“We drove past the other day and there were thousands of kids,” Brooke said.
In July a new park at Laurieton Oval on Castle Street opened to community.
The Herons Creek Reserve playground and North Haven Wall Reserve’s playground are also scheduled to be upgraded.
Director Melissa Watkins said feedback from the community has resulted in the region’s playground designs moving away from traditional swings and slides.
“We’re installing rocks, boulders, climbing logs and other natural play elements in our playgrounds, which encourage kids to explore, create their own fun and let their imaginations run wild,”she said.
