Swimmers and Camden Haven SLSC members were called out of the water after a shark was spotted by a man on a paramotor off North Haven Beach.
Camden Haven Surf Life Saving vice president Ben Hosick praised the ‘eye in the sky’ for initially spotting the shark.
The man was on a paramotor and alerted the club’s IRB crew, who then signaled to surf lifesavers on the beach.
“It was a fantastic community effort,” Ben said.
Ben said the great white was estimated to be about 2.2 metres and was spotted at about 11am.
Port Macquarie lifeguards were issued a drone in September as part of the NSW Government's Shark Drone trials, to help increase safety, coverage and confidence on beaches this summer.
Ben said he hopes the use of the technology will eventually be rolled out to the Camden Haven to provide peace of mind for beach-goers.
