Marty and his daughter Karin are passionate about educating people about sustainable lifestyles and how to grow produce in small spaces.
Recently Marty has had difficult time after breaking his leg when he dived off the back of a dangerous looking wave at North Haven on Monday November 26.
However he has used his recovery to continue to promote his love of small space gardening.
Marty has built a strong online following for his Facebook pages including ’Marty's Garden Show’ and ‘Small Space Veggie Gardening in Australia’.
Marty also has a YouTube channel ‘martys gardening’, which has over 20,000 subscribers.
A horticulturalist be trade, Marty has been engaging the online community with his quirky garden posts and informative discussions.
Marty initially took up small space gardening when he lived in Tweed Heads.
“My daughter and I lived in an apartment,” he said.
“I wanted to grow some produce for us and educate my daughter too.”
Marty said he helped create the first website in the world entirely dedicated to small space urban production.
He has since sold the website but has continued to educate people via another website, videos and social media.
“I’ve had so much positive feedback in regards to how growing plants has changed their lives,” Marty said.
Marty has been approached by David from Port Media in relation to filming the pilot episode.
“We plan to team up and make this a reality,” he said.
“David has years of experience behind him and some amazing equipment that will raise the standards of visuals and stories.”
Marty plans to film with a broken leg and bring an element of reality into the series.
The garden guru is very excited about the project which he said could be ‘life changing for himself and his daughter Karin’.
